Q. Why do you think a nursery rhyme was written about two monarchs getting their heads chopped off?
Q. Why do you think the story has been around for so long?
Q. What was the reason for the King and Queen getting beheaded?
Q. Why do you think people make nursery rhymes about murders and death?

The Truth Behind Jack and Jill
Jack and Jill might be a fun filled nursery rhyme for kids, but what's the real story behind the rhyme? The story "jack and jill" was written in France. Jack stands for King Louis XVI who was beheaded (lost his crown), and Jill stands for Queen Marie Antoinette who "came tumbling after." The beheading of this king and queen happened in 1793. So if you thought this rhyme was just for fun and had no purpose...well...things aren't always as they seem.
Jack and Jill
Jack and Jill
went up the hill
to fetch a pail of water;
Jack fell down
and broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after.
Then up Jack got,
and home did trot
As fast as he could caper.
And went to bed
to mend his head
with vinegar and paper.
This is where I got the lyrics to the rhyme:
